A single-use multi-stage extraction balloon used to sweep stones and debris from the bile duct after sphincterotomy.
According to the manufacturer the extraction balloon takes out stones and fragments up to about 1.0 cm in diameter; above that mechanical lithotripsy is indicated. The decision in a given patient is the physician's.
By the fill volume: 1.5 ml gives 9 mm, 2.5 ml gives 13 mm and 5.0 ml gives 16 mm, and the pack carries a separate syringe for each of the three. That is why a wider duct does not need a catheter exchange.
