This page is intended for healthcare professionals.

Esophageal Bougie Dilator Set

A graduated set of wire-guided bougie dilators used to progressively dilate esophageal strictures.

In which cases?

  • A benign oesophageal stricture: peptic, anastomotic or after radiotherapy.
  • A stricture too tight for the scope to pass, opened stepwise in one session.
  • A patient on a dilation programme coming back for the next diameter.
  • A stricture where axial as well as radial force is wanted.

What makes it different?

  • Tapered tip and a guidewire lumen, so the bougie follows the wire through the stricture.
  • Two distal radiopaque markers and length marks on a transparent shaft, for position under fluoroscopy.
  • Diameters from 5 to 20 mm across the set, so the next step is chosen at the table.
