Epidural catheters in three types: normal with a closed tip and lateral holes in 19G, 21G and 22G, atraumatic with a soft tip in 19G, and reinforced in 19G. The atraumatic and reinforced types are marked along the body and are X-ray detectable.

In which cases?

  • A catheter left in for labor analgesia over hours.
  • Continuous postoperative epidural infusion after major abdominal or thoracic surgery.
  • A patient where paresthesia on placement has to be kept as low as possible, with the atraumatic tip.

What makes it different?

  • The normal type has a closed tip with lateral holes, so the drug leaves the catheter at the side.
  • The body is clear enough to see blood or CSF in the catheter.
  • The atraumatic and reinforced types carry printed marks along the body and are X-ray detectable.
  • The reinforced type is made to take a knot and a sharp bend without closing.
