Endoscopic Mouthpiece

A bite block that protects the endoscope and patient's teeth during upper GI endoscopy.

In which cases?

  • A routine gastroscopy, sedated or unsedated.
  • ERCP and other long upper GI procedures, where the block stays in for the whole case.
  • A paediatric patient who needs the smaller size.
  • A patient who bites down during a long procedure, where the insertion tube is at risk.

What makes it different?

  • Latex-free, so a latex-restricted patient is scoped with the same item.
  • Adult and child sizes, with a tongue plate version for a difficult airway view.
  • Textile or rubber band, so the block does not shift once the patient is sedated.
  • Single-use, so a block that has already been bitten through is not the one used on the next patient.

Frequently asked questions

Does the bite block come sterile?

No. It is supplied non-sterile and is used on a single patient, with a shelf life of five years. A bite block does not enter the body; it sits between the teeth and carries the insertion tube.

Which sizes are there?

An adult and a child size, and a version with a tongue plate for a difficult airway view. The band is textile or rubber, so the block does not shift once the patient is sedated.
