Non-coring (Huber-point) needles used to access implanted vascular access ports for infusion or blood sampling.

Accessing a port for a chemotherapy infusion in the day unit.
Taking blood from an implanted venous access device.
Long-term intermittent access, where one septum is punctured for years.

What makes it different?

The Huber point parts the septum without coring it, so repeated access is possible.
Two ranges at 20G and 22G, from 15 to 25 mm, so the length can follow the depth of the port.
The wings lie flat, so the dressing holds the needle through the infusion.

Frequently asked questions

Which needle length is chosen?

The port depth, the tissue thickness and the dressing thickness are taken together. A needle that is too long can damage the needle or the port during placement; a needle that is too short may not pass the septum completely. The table runs from 15 to 25 mm: 17, 20 and 25 mm with a 20 cm line, and 15, 20 and 25 mm in the second range.

Can contrast be power injected through it?

On the second range it is allowed only through a port labelled for power injection, at a maximum pressure of 325 psi, at about 5 ml/s on 20G and 2 ml/s on 22G. The D-1 configuration is not used with power injectors.
